ISLAMABAD: Information Minister Chaudhry Fawad Hussain made a joke about former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif submitting another “bogus” medical report to the Lahore High Court (LHC), saying the only thing missing from the document was that the PML-N chief was not advised to walk in London’s Hyde Park.
In an interview with the media in Islamabad, the information minister said that the report was written by a doctor in Washington when Sharif was in London. “Today, the high court received an unusual medical report from Nawaz Sharif. Doctor Shawl, who lives in Washington, indicated in this report that Nawaz Sharif, who lives in London, is under great stress as a result of Covid-19, and that his medical condition prevents him from travelling to Pakistan.
Fawad claimed that such “dubious” reports written by Sharif’s personal physician since 2004 were merely intended to mock Pakistani laws and the legal system. The minister insisted that submitting such information concerning Sharif’s health would not help him achieve his goals. “We hope the judiciary will take such shady reports seriously and restore the country’s prestige,” he said.
“In my opinion, the simplest option for Nawaz Sharif to stay in London is to refund the money plundered from Pakistanis,” he continued. Fawad mocked the former premier, saying the only thing missing from the medical report was Sharif’s advice not to walk in London’s Hyde Park. The minister encouraged the Sharif family to “restore looted money to the people of the country” by refraining from preparing and submitting “false” medical papers to the court.
Sharif was also chastised by the State Minister for Information and Broadcasting, who claimed that the medical report refuted PML-N officials’ claims that he would return to Pakistan. He tweeted, “The world was told that Nawaz Sharif’s doctors are in London, and now the report has been made by a doctor in the United States.”
“After this revelation, all of the PML-N leaders’ comments that Mian Saab is returning [to Pakistan] have been proven to be untrue,” he continued. Shahbaz Gill, the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Political Communication, said the cardiologist’s medical report “indirectly urged that his patient get married since he suffers from ‘broken heart syndrome’.”
Gill questioned the report’s reliability, questioning why Sharif was examined in London by an American doctor.
“In the United Kingdom, all cardiologists have died.” That is why Nawaz Sharif summoned a Pakistani-American doctor to London, got himself examined, and had a letter [medical report] produced by him,” he stated on Twitter. “Your [Sharif’s] pranks and trickery will no longer be effective. He went on to say, “Lies upon lies.”
In a subsequent tweet, Gill clarified that Dr. Shawl was of Indian descent.
