Johnny and Amber’s relationship
After several years of dating, the Hollywood actors wed in a private ceremony at their Los Angeles home in 2015. Johnny Depp-Amber Heard case
In March 2019, Johnny sued Amber for defamation after reading her op-ed in the Washington Post, in which she discussed experiencing domestic abuse. The lawsuit was for $50 million. The article made no mention of Johnny. The story was revealed, though, as their divorce proceeding made headlines.
Johnny received $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages from their trial jury in June 2022. Later, the punitive damages were cut to $350,000.
Although Johnny prevailed in his ex-wife’s defamation case, the jury also found that Johnny was responsible for the incident due to prior remarks made by his attorney in which he referred to Amber’s claims as a “hoax.” Compensation damages totaling $2 million were given to Amber.
