Restaurant in Italy charges 4 students around Rs 1 Lakh for a meal. Paying exorbitant prices for average food always leaves us with a negative impression. Just imagine doing it while you’re on vacation. It can be quite difficult to even bring up concerns about the price and quality of the food served when exchange rates and cultural differences are taken into consideration.

This is precisely what occurred to some Japanese tourists who were on vacation in Venice. Four students were charged 970 pounds, or Rs 99,520, for their dinner at a restaurant in one of Venice’s most popular neighborhoods. This incident from 2018 has now come to light again.

The group reported the exorbitant price to the neighborhood authorities after they returned to Bologna, where they were studying Italian cuisine. Friends of the group who had dinner at a different establishment and were charged £301 (Rs 30,882) for three portions of seafood pasta also complained.

As a Restaurant in Italy charges 4 students around Rs 1 Lakh for a meal, In response to the complaint, the mayor, Luigi Brugnaro said:  “In the next few days we will verify this episode well, we will have a copy of the complaint sent to us if it has actually been filed. If this shameful episode is confirmed, we will do everything possible to punish those responsible. We are for justice, always!”

A spokesperson for the restaurant, which is reportedly owned by Chinese investors and run by an Egyptian, told journalists that he could not recall any specific problems involving Japanese customers, according to The Guardian. The business was later found guilty and fined £12,300.

But this is not a singular occurrence. According to Mirror, an Italian visitor complained about paying £37 (Rs 3796) for two coffees and two bottles of water at Caffe Lavena near St. Mark’s Square in 2019. A British tourist claimed that he and his elderly parents were tricked into paying a hefty lunch bill of £463 (Rs 47,502) in a separate incident. This occurred after they dined on lobster and oysters at a well-known restaurant in the city.

The majority of these restaurants have been criticized by previous customers on travel websites, which is good news for tourists. Reviews for these restaurants are probably going to call them “scams” and advise people to “avoid them at all costs.”

Therefore, before making any payments when you book your next trip to a foreign country, be sure to read the restaurant’s reviews and carefully review the bill.
