The long-awaited message editing feature for WhatsApp has now been made available.

Today, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said on Facebook that WhatsApp has introduced a message editing feature and users can now edit messages within 15 minutes of sending them.

You can choose a message and tap the edit option while holding down the option.

The word “edited” will be appended to the time stamp of the modified messages indicating the change.

Other users won’t be able to read the earlier iterations of modified messages, and the app won’t keep track of any correction history.

We’re happy that you will now be able to amend mistakes or add more information, giving you greater control over your conversations.

You must tap and hold the message for a few seconds after you send it and then select the “Edit” option from the menu within 15 minutes, the company said in a blog post.

Previously, users had to either fully delete a message or amend it in another message. Last year, the chat app increased the window opportunity for deleting a message from two days (48 hours) to 60 hours.

WhatsApp (also called WhatsApp Messenger) is an internationally available freeware, cross-platform, centralized instant messaging (IM), and voice-over-IP (VoIP) service owned by US tech conglomerate Meta.

It allows users to send text and voice messages, make voice and video calls, and share images, documents, user locations, and other content. WhatsApp’s client application runs on mobile devices and can be accessed from computers.

The service requires a cellular mobile telephone number to sign up. In January 2018, WhatsApp released a standalone business app called WhatsApp Business which can communicate with the standard WhatsApp client.
