Fans predict about Meerab & Murtasim’s future in Tere Bin drama

You may have noticed that one hashtag has taken over the internet recently if you use social media. Tere Bin, the most recent drama by Yumna Zaidi and Wahaj Ali, has received criticism for its “unnecessary plot twist” including a ‘marital rape’ scene after initially receiving high praise.

As the titles roll in episode 46 of the well-known drama Tere Bin, we witness Ali’s character, Murtasim, allegedly pushing himself on his wife Meerab (Zaidi) enacting a ‘marital rape’ scene. In addition, it appears from the preview for the show airing the following week that Tere Bin will now address the subject of marital rape. The aforementioned abrupt alteration in a fan-favorite character has shocked the drama serial’s fan base.

Many criticized the programme and its author for the needless demise of Murtasim’s character arc. The latter, though, has now spoken out about the criticism.

“It’s a situation which was the demand of the serial that will lead to the climax,” Nooran Makhdoom, the writer of Tere Bin, said in an interview with Arab News. “If the audience isn’t getting it, I can’t change it,” she continued. “It’s just a drama. They should wait for the entire story to unfold instead of taking issue with every episode.”

The writer went on to add that neither the content team nor the production house objected to the new storyline. “It’s not like this has happened onscreen for the first time,” she added. “It’s just that this project has received such wide recognition that people reacted strongly to the recent twist.”

Makhdoom further shared that the infamous spitting and slapping scene in the last episode wasn’t included in the original script. It was later tweaked during the shooting. And she stands by the scene and the script. “If you speak of my social responsibility, I created a story and I stand by it,” she told the publication. “And this is not an unusual occurrence; it has happened before.”

It is pertinent to mention that previously, Imran Ashraf and Iqra Aziz’s popular venture, Ranjha Ranjha Kardi, too, was criticized for including marital rape in the show.
