Punjab police have been wrongfully abducting people following the ongoing crackdown on the PTI workers involved in the May 9 incident, a local told The Asian Mirror.
“The Punjab police abducted my cousin Umer Farooq Hunjra s/o Muhammad Shoaib Mehmood without any warrant on 18 May 2023 at 4:40 pm from his residence (Chak 42, District Sheikhupura),” said the local.
“There were 4 persons in the police car three in uniform and the fourth one (the sub-inspector) without uniform. They didn’t tell us why and where they were taking him,” he continued.
“The police lied to us about the reason for his arrest. When we used our resources to find the exact reason we were told that he was taken into custody because of his involvement in the May 9 incident,” he further said.
“My cousin was at home when the May 9 incident occurred. This is so shameful that police is kidnapping people without proper identification,” he continued.
“We demand IG Punjab look into the matter himself and stop such unlawful abductions without any reason.”
On the other hand, the military’s top brass vowed to try protesters and their abettors under relevant laws, including the Pakistan Army Act and the Official Secrets Act, after PTI workers and supporters stormed military installations on May 9, which the army dubbed as “Black Day”.
The decision came during a Special Corps Commanders Conference (CCC) held at the General Headquarters with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir in the chair, according to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
