Accountability court judge hands over three accused to NAB on remand

On a three-day transit remand, an accountability court judge handed over three accused, including the former municipal commissioner of Korangi, to Rawalpindi NAB officers.

Former Korangi municipal commissioner Masroor Memon, accounting officer Vakash, and audit officer Dharamveer were brought by NAB Rawalpindi for transit remand before the presiding judge of the Karachi-based accountability court.

TT receipts worth millions of rupees have been recovered from the suspects’ possession, according to Rawalpindi NAB officials. A total of Rs70 million was found, as well as gold bricks, buttons, dollars, dirhams, and riyals. The NAB had to count the cash notes discovered from the suspects’ possession using machinery. The acquisition of petrol and other affairs for the Korangi Municipal Corporation were tainted by corruption.

After taking bribes, contracts were awarded, and more receipts were deducted for less gasoline. The funds were transferred internationally and deposited in bogus accounts. The court was asked to hold the suspects so that they could appear in Rawalpindi’s relevant court.

The court granted the request and remanded the suspects in Rawalpindi NAB custody for three days.
