One died, four injured in overturning of boat in Khanpur Dam Lake

A boat carrying 28 pupils and eight instructors overturned at the Khanpur Dam Lake on Tuesday, killing a female schoolteacher and injuring four others.

A group of 34 individuals, including 28 pupils and eight teachers from a Rawalpindi private school, organised a picnic at Khanpur Lake, where they rented a boat to visit the lake, according to a spokeswoman for Rescue 1122.

Because of the low water level at Khanpur Lake, the boat hit an underwater rock and capsized as it reached the middle of the lake.

Except for one female instructor, Saliha, all of the passengers on board were wearing life jackets, which protected them from drowning.

1122 (Rescue) The Khanpur crew rescued all students and teachers from the lake water and rushed them to the Tehsil Headquarter Hospital in Khanpur, where one female teacher, Saliha, died and four children were listed in critical condition. When medics declared a 15-year-old female student’s situation critical, she was transferred to PMO from THQ Khanpur.

Following the completion of legal requirements, the teacher’s body was turned over to her family. An investigation into the occurrence has been launched by the assistant commissioner of Haripur.

Mahmood Khan, the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, expressed his sadness and sorrow over the capsizing of a boat carrying teachers and students on a picnic at Hazara’s Khanpur Dam.
