LAHORE: Pakistan has released 20 Indian fisherman, who would be handed over to the Border Security Force (BSF) of India on Monday at the Wagah border crossing in Lahore.
The fishermen were apprehended for fishing illegally in Pakistani seas without permission. They were held at Karachi’s Landhi Jail but were freed on humanitarian grounds by the government a day earlier.
According to officials, there are 588 Indian fishermen detained in Pakistani jails, with 42 cases ongoing and penalties handed down. According to them, there are 620 Pakistani fishermen imprisoned in Indian jails.
The fishermen’s travel expenses are covered by the Edhi Foundation. Bilquis Edhi has also handed each fisherman Rs5,000 as a goodwill gesture, according to a spokeswoman for the charity organisation.
