RCD has become a killer Highway

RCD has become a killer Highway

The Killer Highway, also known as the RCD Road, is a National Highway that connects Quetta to Karachi. It is known for its dangerous and deadly stretches, and unfortunately, the road has claimed many lives over the years. The recent incident that occurred near the Grok area, Tehsil Kada Kocha District Mastung where a motorcyclist collided with a passenger vehicle, has once again highlighted the perilous nature of this highway.

According to reports, the accident left the motorcyclist, Najeebullah, severely injured, and he was immediately rushed to “Ismail Baloch Welfare Society “for medical attention. However, despite their best efforts, Najeebullah could not survive his injuries and was declared dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.

His death is a tragic reminder of the dangerous conditions that motorists face while traveling on this highway. Similarly, In January 2022, a deadly accident occurred on the highway near the district Surab area, which claimed the lives of at least 20 people and left several others injured. The accident involved a passenger bus and a truck.

Lack of lighting

Moreover, the RCD Road has been dubbed the Killer Highway for several reasons as it is poorly maintained, with uneven surfaces, narrow and single lanes, and sharp turns, making it difficult for drivers to navigate. Additionally, the lack of road infrastructure and lighting makes it even more dangerous, particularly at night. The absence of emergency services and medical facilities along the highway also poses a significant risk to motorists who may need immediate medical attention in case of an accident.

The government and concerned authorities have repeatedly promised to improve the conditions of the RCD Road, but little has been done to date. The road remains a nightmare for motorists and commuters, who are forced to use it due to a lack of alternatives. It is essential that the government take immediate action to improve the condition of this vital highway, which is not only essential for trade and commerce but also for the safety of the people who use it.

In conclusion, the recent accident on the Killer Highway is a reminder of the perils that motorists face while traveling on this dangerous road. The lack of infrastructure and safety measures, coupled with the poor maintenance of the road, make it a dangerous stretch for motorists. It is high time that the government takes immediate action to improve the condition of the RCD Road and ensure the safety of the people who use it.
