5 lessons to learn from Kamasutra for the modern era

The Kama Sutra is an ancient Indian Sanskrit text on sexuality, eroticism, and emotional fulfillment in life. Attributed to Vātsyāyana, the Kama Sutra is neither exclusively nor predominantly a sex manual on sex positions, but rather was written as a guide to the art of living well, the nature of love, finding a life partner, maintaining one’s love life, and other aspects pertaining to pleasure-oriented faculties of human life. It is a sutra-genre text with terse aphoristic verses that have survived into the modern era with different bhāṣyas (exposition and commentaries).

The text acknowledges the Hindu concept of Purusharthas and lists desire, sexuality, and emotional fulfillment as one the proper goals of life. Its chapters discuss methods for courtship, training in the arts to be socially engaging, finding a partner, flirting, maintaining power in married life, when and how to commit adultery, sexual positions, and other topics. The majority of the book is about the philosophy and theory of love, what triggers desire, what sustains it, and how and when it is good or bad.

Here are 5 lessons to learn from Kamasutra for the modern era:

1- Don’t jump in

Many men still do not realize that if they want good sex, their partner must be on the same page as well, but in order to do so, they must work on everything that precedes the act of sex. Diving into it is, first and foremost, not permitted unless you both just want to do it, and secondly, you will not receive a reaction because the woman has not reached that stage. In other words, foreplay is the key to a fulfilling sexual life. According to Kamasutra, a male should first touch a woman’s shoulders and seek approval. Only if she responds should he lean closer.

2- Kissing

There is a way to kiss properly. You can’t just slobber because you are not a dog. There is an art behind kissing. You can give light kisses not just on the lips but on the entire face and body. Explore your partner’s body with light kisses all over until you get to know the erogenous zones that make them quiver. The pressure and urgency can be worked on depending upon the response of your partner.

3- The act of intimacy

Intimacy is not just penetrative intercourse. As per Kamasutra, there are in fact 64 acts that elevate that mood and lead you to a good time in bed. Some of those acts include conversation, enticing, kissing, stimulating, caressing, screeching, oral sex, positions, biting, and moaning.

4- Scratching for women, biting for men

Kamasutra recommends that women scratch their partners during the act of making love. There are interesting, 8 kinds of scratches which include the half moon, discus, tiger’s claw, line, circle, hare’s leap, lotus leap, and peacock’s foot. For men, the bible of sex suggests light biting amid the act for extreme pleasure.

5- Make the woman climax first

A woman can have numerous orgasms, according to Kamasutra. A woman has the ability to continue the act of sex even after experiencing orgasms during intercourse. Men are exhausted after their orgasm, which is why males must make their wife climax first, followed by their climax.
