According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, an earthquake struck Islamabad and northern Pakistan on Friday night (PMD).

The magnitude of the earthquake was 5.6, according to the PMD, and it struck at a depth of 100 kilometres around 9:13 p.m. in the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border region.

According to report, tremors were felt in the federal capital and surrounding districts, as well as in Mansehra, Hazara, Balakot, Battagram, Torghar, Haripur, Abbottbad, Swat, Malakand, and Shangla in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

So yet, no casualties or property damage have been reported.

An earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale shook coastal portions of Balochistan earlier on Tuesday.

The centre of the moderate earthquake occurred 50 kilometres south of Gwadar, at a depth of 25 kilometres in the Makran subduction zone, according to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre (NSMC).

“It’s the first time in decades that an earthquake of this magnitude has been reported in the Makran subduction zone and was felt from Gwadar to Omara,” NSMC Director Ameer Hyder had told media.

While an earthquake of this magnitude would not result in a tsunami, he had stated that the region had the capacity to generate a tsunami at any time.
