PHA develops rainwater harvesting projects in parks

RAWALPINDI: The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) has constructed a massive rainwater harvesting/storage project in Rawalpindi’s five major parks.

Instead of using freshwater from tube wells, the project aims to use collected rainwater for irrigation in parks and tree planting throughout the city. The completion of this project will save the city’s residents valuable clean water.

The project’s sites have already been chosen, and PC-1 is already complete. Work will begin in March and take three months to finish.

During the upcoming monsoon season, all rainwater will be stored. Water storage tanks will be built underground, and filling stations will be established. Allama Iqbal Park, Rawal Park, Pothohar Park, Liaquat Bagh, and Commercial Market Children’s Park are among the parks in Rawalpindi where these initiatives will be inaugurated.

The Annual Development Program Scheme was used to design these five subterranean water tanks. According to PHA Chairman Asif Mahmood, the city’s parks have been strewn with a variety of flowers. He also mentioned that colourful lights will be installed. “In the spring, tree planting will begin for the beautifying of Rawalpindi,” he added. In Rawalpindi, he said, trees and flowers will be planted along all main and small roadways.

“Cultural embellishments are also being added to the walls along Rawal Road,” Mahmood remarked. Rawalpindi will be transformed into a beautiful model city of Punjab this year, he added.

Murree Road, Faizabad, Chandni Chowk, underpasses, hundreds of Metro Bus pillars, and Committee Chowk in Rawalpindi have already been beautified. “Rashid Minhas Road has also been beautified,” Mahmood remarked.
