ISLAMABAD: Heavy snowfall has interrupted daily life in northern Pakistan, stranding thousands of tourists in Murree and Galiyat.

Fawad Chaudhry, Minister of Information and Broadcasting, claimed on Twitter that hundreds of thousands of cars are travelling to Murree and other upper places to enjoy the snowfall.

The local administration is unable to give amenities to such a huge number of people, according to the minister, who urged people to postpone their visits to these places for a few days.

Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed, the Interior Minister, had stated that 16 to 19 individuals died of exposure to the cold in cars stranded in Murree. According to him, the Pakistan Army has dispatched five platoons to assist in the rescue of the stranded tourists.

According to a tweet from the Islamabad deputy commissioner, roads leading to Murree have been stopped since yesterday. Thousands of people sought to access the hill station despite the ban on admission, but were turned away, he claimed, recommending people to avoid visiting Murree over the weekend.
