Fact check: Is Junaid Safdar stepping into Pakistani politics?

Junaid Safdar confirms is not joining politics 'for now'

Sharif heir Junaid Safdar intends to return to Pakistan permanently to help his mother Maryam Nawaz, who has been appointed senior vice president and chief organiser, according to local media.

As Maryam was tasked with reorganising the ruling PML-N, his son Junaid Safdar planned to return to South Asia with wife Ayesha Saif in a few weeks.

The development comes as the PML-N supremo and his daughter Maryam flew from London to Switzerland for a week.

Meanwhile, Junaid, a Cambridge graduate who received multiple honours during his time in Britain, is expected to begin his political career by assisting his mother, while his grandfather, Pakistan’s three-time Prime Minister, plans to return to Pakistan.

Late Wednesday, Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb confirmed Sharif’s visit in a tweet, saying PML-N Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz has departed for Geneva today from London for her surgery.

She also confirmed Maryam’s return to Pakistan in the second half of January to assume her new responsibilities as the party’s chief organizer.
