LAHORE: Recent rains have reduced pollution levels in Lahore, which had a particle matter (PM) rating of 160 on Thursday morning, putting the city in the “unhealthy” category of air quality.
Intermittent rain that lasted all night not only made the weather in the province capital cool, but it also improved the air quality. The city is currently ranked 10th among the world’s most polluted cities.
Sundar Industrial Estate in Lahore had an air quality index (AQI) of 169, National Hockey Stadium 157, Town Hall 104, and Township Sector C2 61, according to the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA).
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has projected further rainfall in the city in the next 24 hours.
Ground-level ozone, particulate matter, carbon monoxide, sulphur dioxide, and nitrogen dioxide are the five types of pollution used to calculate the AQI.
An AQI of 151-200 is regarded unhealthy, whereas AQIs of 201 to 300 are more hazardous, and AQIs of over 300 are considered severely toxic.
