Inspector General of Prisons Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Saadat Hassan has said that new challenges are increasing for the jails due to the current situation in the region.
He said this while talking to the media on the occasion of his visit to the District Central Jail, Dera Ismail Khan.
On the occasion of his visit, IG Prisons KP also announced a 2-month amnesty for the prisoners of District Central Jail, Dera Ismail Khan.
Mr. Saadat Hassan also inspected the passing out parade of 40 newly recruited warders.
Superintendent Jail Samiullah Khan Shinwari briefed the IG in the office.
Speaking to the media, Inspector General of Prisons Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Saadat Hassan said that District Central Jail Dera Ismail Khan is one of the oldest jails in the province.
Mr. Hassan said, the number of dangerous prisoners in District Central Jail, Dera is low, therefor it is no danger in this regard
“We are converting prisons into correctional centers, this work cannot be done by the government alone, but the cooperation of Non-Government Organizations (NGOs), business organizations and the media is necessary in this regard,” he said.
He added, there will also be a meeting with the provincial finance minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in a few days regarding the construction work and the provision of funds.
“Working with regard to the quota of retired employees while the problems of accommodation and promotions of jail employees are also being taken care of,”, he said.
Later, Inspector General of Prisons Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Saadat Hasan inaugurated the new jail building for the prisoners, Main Gate Central Jail, Library, Barracks, and Admin Block for the accommodation of soldiers and prayed for the ‘Central Library’ of the District Central Jail and also inspected the books.
Superintendent District Central Jail Dera Samiullah Khan Shinwari and Deputy Superintendent Jail Zafarullah Marwat and other officials were present on this occasion.
