Suspect in Paul Pelosi’s attack pleads not guilty
Suspect in Paul Pelosi’s attack pleads not guilty to state charges. David DePape, the suspect, entered a second not guilty plea to state charges coming from an attack on Paul Pelosi, the husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, in late October during a brief court proceeding on Wednesday.
Following a preliminary hearing where a defendant is required to appear and answer to all accusations, a second arraignment is often scheduled for felony charges in California.

After being detained, DePape appeared in court for the first time in early November and entered a not-guilty plea. He faces charges for first-degree burglary, elder abuse, assault, false imprisonment, threatening a family member of a public office, and attempted murder.
DePape spoke just one word in court on Wednesday when he appeared before Judge Teresa Caffese, responding “yes” when asked if he was renouncing his right to a quick trial.
After the brief procedural hearing, the district attorney’s office and public defender Adam Lipson both declined to comment.
Christine Pelosi, one of the victim’s daughters, was present during the hearing on Wednesday.
On February 23 at 9 a.m., DePape is due back in San Francisco superior court, where it’s anticipated that Judge Rochelle East will set a trial date.
