KARACHI: In response to an increase in cases of the Omicron strain of COVID-19 in Karachi, the Sindh health department is considering limiting business hours and closing schools in the city.
According to information, the increased number of Omicron cases has prompted a conversation in the health department about recommending that the metropolis’ business hours be shortened. Furthermore, schools in districts with the highest number of reported cases will be closed.
Because the positive ratio in Karachi has reached 8.91 percent, a decision would be made within two to three days. After 2650 persons in Karachi were tested for COVID, 236 people tested positive.
In comparison to other cities in the country, Karachi has the lowest immunisation rate, with only 40% of the population having received vaccine.
It’s worth noting that the NCOC announced yesterday that the fifth wave of coronavirus, led by the Omicron strain, had rapidly spread across the country.
The overall situation of the coronavirus pandemic in the country was discussed at a session of the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), which was co-chaired by Federal Minister Asad Umar and Maj. Gen. Zafar Iqbal.
The coronavirus Omicron strain is now causing an increase in cases across the country.
“The ratio of positive cases is increasing, particularly in Karachi, where the positivity rate has risen to 6% from 2% previously,” the session was told.
In the wake of an increase in coronavirus cases, the NCOC has recommended individuals to get vaccinated.
