In a 2013 case involving the kidnapping and murder of two Rangers personnel, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) convicted accused Lyari kingpin Uzair Baloch and MQM’s Shaikh Sher Mohammad Sheroo.
Today, the court issued a reserved judgement, acquitting them due to a lack of evidence.
The prosecution failed to present tangible evidence to corroborate the kidnapping and murder claims against Uzair Baloch and Sher Mohammad, according to a defence lawyer.
Two Rangers men – Havaldar Muneer Ahmed and Havaldar Ejaz Ahmed – were kidnapped and murdered in 2013 inside the jurisdiction of the Pak Colony police station, according to the authorities.
According to the authorities, their bodies were discovered in the Mewashah cemetery on March 7, 2013.
Both Rangers troops were on intelligence assignment when they were kidnapped, according to a joint investigation team (JIT).
At a prior hearing, Sher Mohammad’s lawyer claimed that his client was a member of the MQM. “The Lyari gang war and the MQM have severe disputes,” the lawyer added. “Sher Mohammad has been charged in the case because of political issues.”
He argued, “How can an ailing elderly man kill trained security personnel?”
