ISLAMABAD: Pakistan began administering the COVID-19 booster dose to persons above the age of 30 on Monday.
Citizens above the age of 30 will be entitled for a booster dose of their choice, according to the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC).
The booster, on the other hand, will be given six months after the last dose.
In the wake of the mounting threat of Omicron, the centre recommended citizens to observe COVID-19 SOPs, wear masks, and ensure complete immunisation and booster dosages.
Asad Umar, the chairman of the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), claimed earlier on Sunday that they now have clear evidence that another wave of COVID-19 has reached the country, citing an increase in Omicron cases, particularly in Karachi.
Asad Umar announced the news on Twitter, saying that there is obvious evidence of the start of another Covid wave, which has been expected for a few weeks.
“Genome sequencing shows an increase in the proportion of omicron cases, especially in Karachi,” he added, adding that “wearing a mask is your greatest defence.”
Pakistan continues to see an increase in COVID-19 infections, with 708 new cases reported in the last 24 hours.
According to the latest numbers released by the Countrywide Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), a total of 45,643 samples were tested during this time period, with 708 of them proving positive, resulting in a national positivity rate of 1.55 percent, up from 1.3 percent yesterday.
