Maria B justifies her stance on opposing intersex community

Maria B, a Pakistani designer, has always been outspoken about her feelings about the transgender community. She freely condemned items that do not adhere to her religion’s rules.

Maria B defended her anti-intersex attitude in a recent interview with Ahmad Ali Butt on his show ‘Super Over’ in a recent interview. She also distinguished between the transgender and intersex communities.

She said: “There is an important issue which needs to talk about. There is an intersex community in Pakistan which is also known as Khawaja Sara. An act for transgender rights was passed which was hijacked by those people who are not Khawaja Sara by birth rather they just pretend to be the intersex community. The bill has been misrepresented and it’s not all about the intersex community but it is promoting some other agenda.”

“People need to be aware that there are normal men and women who, one day, feel the urge to change their gender and do so, referring to this group of people as the intersex community. I disagree with them because our religion forbids that.”

She went on to say that she is working with Jamat-e-Islami Senator Mr. Mushtaq for giving rights to the intersex community who have been deprived for 75 years.
