Sindh Government imposes smart lock down in Gulshan-e-Iqbal

KARACHI: After eleven members of a family tested positive for the Omicron version of Covid-19, a micro-smart lockdown was implemented in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal.

The lockdown was imposed in Block-07 of Gulshan-e-Iqbal for a period of two weeks beginning December 31, according to a notification issued by the District East deputy commissioner.

“Smart Lockdown (SLDs) and Micro-Smart Lockdown (mSLDs) shall be enforced in the street and houses of specified area respectively,” read the notification.

In the area, the following restrictions have been imposed:

  • Without exception, everybody entering or leaving the area under lockdown must wear a mask.
  • The movement of residents in the area will be carefully limited.
  • Only grocery stores, bakeries, and pharmacies will be permitted to operate, while all other business activity would be halted.
  • There will be no home delivery or takeaway of any kind permitted.
  • All types of functions will be outlawed completely.

The health service had previously stated that the new strain had affected eleven members of a single family. Residents of the city’s District East are afflicted, with eight women and three men ranging in age from 26 to 77.
