UNSC condemns attack on Pakistani embassy in Kabul

In a press release, the UN Security Council (UNSC) strongly condemned the terrorist attack that took place at the Pakistani embassy in Kabul on Friday and appealed for the protection of consular and diplomatic facilities.

By unanimous vote, the 15-member Council also wished the security guard who suffered critical injuries in the “reprehensible” attack a quick and full recovery.

The statement, which was made a few hours after the news of the attack reached here, emphasised the importance of apprehending the attack’s perpetrators.

The Security Council members urged “all relevant parties to respect and ensure the safety and security of diplomatic and consular premises and personnel of United Nations Member States,” according to the statement.

The Security Council members emphasised the fundamental principle of the inviolability of diplomatic and consular premises, as well as the obligations on receiving States under the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and the 1963 Vienna Convention on Consular Relations to take all appropriate measures to protect diplomatic and consular premises against any intrusion or damage and to prevent any disturbance of these peace missions.
