How many college students will be benefited by Education card scheme in KP? Find out
Chief Minister Mahmood Khan has said that provincial government has undertaken effective steps to align the education sector with contemporary needs to ensure equal access of students to quality education.
In a statement issued here on Thursday, he said that launching of education card for the current academic year was a continuation of those steps.
He said that under the card scheme, tuition fee of students in all government colleges would be waived.
Mr Khan termed the education card a unique project of the provincial government, saying it would prove an encouraging initiative in promoting higher education in the province.

“The education card scheme is expected to benefit 244,000 students enrolled in government colleges throughout the province. The scheme includes waiver of the entire tuition fee and will cost approximately Rs1 billion to the provincial exchequer,” he said.
The chief minister said that investment in human capital was of paramount importance and one of the pivotal agendas of the provincial government. He said that visible steps were taken in that regard to ensure promotion of higher education in the province.
He said that the reforms and initiatives of the provincial government started yielding positive results and trust of people was restored in state-run educational institutions.
Mr Khan said that a number of steps were taken to make educational institutions in the province fully functional. He said that 76 colleges were upgraded whereas 37 new colleges were established in the province.
He said that the establishment of Pak-Austria Fachhochshule Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology in Haripur was another milestone achieved by the provincial government towards promotion of education in the sector of applied sciences as per contemporary needs.
He said that the establishment of university campuses in various districts of the province also ensured greater access to higher educational facilities.
He said that that Rs8 billion was allocated in the current budget for various developmental projects in higher education sector.
Some of the projects include renovation and rehabilitation of colleges, establishment of new colleges, strengthening of universities, promotion of commerce and management sciences, provision of scholarships and stipends to students, setting up new universities and improving public libraries.
“These schemes have been finalised keeping in view the differential needs. Completion of these projects will resolve majority of the issues faced by parents and students,” said Mr Khan.
