Sociology book banned by Punjab Text Book Board

Due to its contentious nature, the Sociology book for Intermediate Part-I has been banned by the Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board (PCTB). Following concerns from multiple educators, the prohibited book Ainah Emraniyat, published by Khalid Book Depot, was removed from the curriculum due to its unethical and immoral nature.

Educationists claim that other publications are being published without a No-Objection Certificate as well (NOC). Additionally, they claimed that the PCTB had failed to stop this wrongdoing. Additionally, they voiced concern over the lack of the previously planned establishment of a complaint cell for emphasizing objections and complaints regarding the material.

Separately, the Single National Curriculum (SNC) textbooks up to class 8 must be printed by the PCTB and made available on the market by 1 April 2023, according to a directive from the Punjab School Education Department (SED).

Reportedly, the PCTB must grant permission for educational institutions to utilize books other than those in the SNC. In the event that they don’t comply, PCTB will apply severe sanctions, including fines that might be anywhere from Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 500,000. Additionally, SED has determined that classes 9 and 10 will adopt SNC by April 2024.
