GMC holds 4th convocation, confers 117 MBBS degrees to doctors
The Gomal Medical College (GMC) Dera Ismail Khan conferred 117 degrees of Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) on young doctors in its 4th convocation held here on Tuesday.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Acting Governor Mushtaq Ahmed Ghani was the chief guest at the convocation ceremony which was attended by students, parents, Khyber Medical University Vice Chancellor Dr Zia ul Haq, Commissioner Amir Afaq, Deputy Commissioner Nasrullah Khan, Regional Police Officer Muhammad Saleem Marwat and others.
The governor urged the doctors to behave politely while treating the ailing humanity.
He said that the provincial government was taking tangible steps for the development of southern districts and as part of such efforts there was a plan to establish Dentistry College and a Kidney Center in the district D.I.Khan which would cater to the people of all adjoining areas as well.
Moreover, he said a Cardiology center had already been approved in D.I.Khan and it would be built soon.
Talking to the media persons on the occasion, Acting Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani said, We have no problem with the appointment of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Pakistan but we want the appointment of COAS on merit.
Mr. Ghani said, Whether I am a governor and اccountable to the Federal Government but also in the capacity of Governor, I will work like the soldier of Imran Khan.
“The whole Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, including Dera Ismail Khan District has seen development and prosperity in the PTI era which has never happened in the past, Lift Canal and D I Khan-Peshawar Motorway projects are included in the CPEC project while by irrigating the agricultural land of D I Khan, wheat will be supplied to the entire country,” he said.
Mr. Ghani further added the country is dominated by a band of thieves, the imported government is a guest for a few days.
He said “we want democracy, neither martial law nor any type of dictatorship, Snap election is the only solution to all problems.

He said PTI is not responsible for terrorism, financial crisis and public social problems it is the responsibility of the federal agencies and state institutions to stop the inflow of terrorists through Afghanistan while the Afghan government should also respond.
Earlier, GMC Principal Dr Naseem Saba Mehsud while highlighting the achievements of the college said the institute was playing its vital and active role in medical education with its excellent faculty members and students. She further said that till now 1677 graduates and 437 gold medalists were contributing services to treat the ailing humanity.
She also informed that 29 foreign students were also studying in the institution and representing the country of Pakistan, Dera Ismail Khan and Gomal Medical College in their respective countries.
She further informed Dera Ismail Khan had six surgeons and consultants in Nephrology and Urology, while there was a need to have a complete urology ward and operation theater facilities to meet the needs of dialysis patients from the entire southern districts and adjoining areas of Punjab and Balochistan.
Dr Naseem Saba Mehsud was of the view that a complete kidney center should be established in Dera Ismail Khan for which all resources and manpower were already available.
She further said that during the global outbreak of Covid-19, the GMC got the honor of becoming the first specialized center for Corona in Pakistan, while even during the days of floods its students showed courage and rescued not only 200 patients in the hospital but also shifted more than 400 other victims safely to the District Headquarters Teaching (DHQT) Hospital and other safe places.
She also said that an international scientific conference under the title of new horizon in medical sciences is being organized in February 2023, in which delegates from all over the world will participate, which will surely be an important milestone in the history of Gomal Medical College.
