ISLAMABAD: President Dr. Arif Alvi has approved the awarding of the Tamgha-e-Shujaat to Adnan Malik, the hero of the Sialkot tragedy who did his hardest to save Sri Lankan manager Priyantha Diyawadana from a vigilante mob in Sialkot.
Under Article 259 (2) of the Pakistani Constitution, President Dr. Arif Alvi approved the conferral of Tamgha-e-Shujaat, a civic award, for Adnan Malik.
On March 23, Adnan Malik will receive the civil award.
According to the report, Prime Minister Imran Khan has announced Tamgha-e-Shujaat for a man who went to great lengths to shelter and safeguard Sri Lankan manager Priyantha Diyawadana from a vigilante mob in Sialkot.
Taking to Twitter, PM Imran Khan said: “On behalf of the nation I want to salute the moral courage & bravery of Malik Adnan who tried his utmost to shelter & save Priyantha Diyawadana from the vigilante mob in Sialkot, endangering his own life by physically trying to shield victim. We will award him Tamgha-e-Shujaat.”
Malik Adnan was seen in a video attempting to save Sri Lankan national Priyantha Diyawadana at the Sialkot plant on his own before being overwhelmed and tortured to death by a crowd.
In the video, Priyantha Diyawadana can be seen trying to hide behind Malik Adnan, who can be seen pleading with protesters to spare the foreign manager.
The tragedy occurred at a factory on Sialkot’s Wazirabad Road, where a foreign factory manager was brutally tortured with sticks by the workers.
This was not all; the outraged crowd had shown no mercy, setting fire to the critically injured foreign manager, who died as a result.
Following the incident, industrial workers trashed homes outside the plant and damaged automobiles.
