PTA to use Live Finger Detection. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has accelerated work on converting the SIM biometric system to Live Finger Detection (LFD).
According to PTA, 300,000 SIM biometric centres around the country will be converted to LFD. The PTA has also urged the operators to gradually transition to LFD devices.
Mobile providers began authenticating SIM LFD devices in most locations during the first phase. So far, 732,000 bogus SIMs have been discovered, according to PTA.
According to PTA officials, 580,000 SIM cards have been identified as being registered in the names of the deceased. While the bogus SIMs have been linked to cell providers and franchisees.
LFD devices have also been found to contain faults, according to telecom carriers. The LFD has received multiple reports about failure, according to telecom sources. Purchasing new computers for the new system on a daily basis will be tough.
