PM Imran Khan praises Putin's remarks on the dignity of Holy Prophet

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has praised Russian President Vladimir Putin’s remarks on the dignity of the Holy Prophet.

He stated that blasphemy does not qualify as freedom of expression, according to local news media.

PM Imran Khan said in a Twitter message, “I welcome President Putin’s statement which reaffirms my message that insulting our Holy Prophet PBUH is not ” freedom of expression”.”

He added, “We Muslims, especially the Muslim leaders, must spread this message to leaders of the non-Muslim world to counter Islamophobia.”

It should be mentioned that Russian President Vladimir Putin stated during his annual news conference on Thursday that insulting Prophet Muhammad is not considered free speech.

Such insults, he said, are a “breach of religious freedom as well as a violation of the sacred sensibilities of Muslims.”

PM Imran Khan praises Putin’s remarks on the dignity of the Holy Prophet. Imran Khan had earlier in May called on the Muslim community to devise a coordinated approach to combat rising Islamophobia.

He urged the international community to work together for interfaith tolerance and peaceful coexistence while speaking with the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Yousef bin Ahmad Al-Othaimeen.

The prime minister had emphasized the significance of a coordinated reaction from the OIC, citing the growth of Islamophobic acts in many regions of the world.

Following the prime minister’s letter to Muslim country heads of state, the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) in Niamey unanimously endorsed a resolution declaring March 15 as International Day to Combat Islamophobia.
