Growers astaged sit-in, blocked road after Govt fails to repair inter-provincial CRBC Canal

Landlords and farmers staged a sit-in here on Wednesday after the ultimatum of 48-hour given to Provincial and federal governments for starting the repair work on Chashma Right Bank Canal (CRBC).

The protestors staged a sit-in at Syndicate Morr and blocked the main road for every type of traffic for many hours.

Earlier, a sit-in was staged by the Landlords, growers, farmers and members of Chamber of Agriculture against the delay in the repair of Chashma Right Bank Canal (CRBC) at Mission Morr in which protesting farmers and landlords gave a 48-hour ultimatum to the both provincial and federal government to start the repair work on Chashma Right Bank Canal (CRBC) otherwise, they will expand the scope of their protest.

After the ultimatum ended, the landlords and growers staged another sit-in protest at Syndicate Morr.

The protestors said the local political leadership, federal and provincial governments and the concerned department are not interested in repairing the CRBC Canal, which will not be able to cultivate the wheat crop this year.

“The sugarcane crop cultivated on thousands of acres has dried up due to lack of water, while cultivation of wheat also seems impossible”, they added.

They said, four lakh acres of land is irrigated by this canal and there is fear of loss of other crops in the coming time.

They further added, further delay in the repair of the CRBC canal will cause a severe food crisis not only in Dera Ismail Khan but also in the entire Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

The demonstration was led by President of CHambers of Agriculture, Haji Abdul Rasheed Dhap, Sheikh Mukarram and Haroon Awan.

On this occasion, landlords, including Asghar Kundi, Mushtaq Dar, Imtiaz Baloch, Shahid Bhandari, Muhammad Saleem, Muhammad Nawaz, Matiullah Babar, Dr. Waheed Alizai, Hasan Dhap, Iqbal Khar, Samiullah Ustrana, Haji Umar Shah, Sanaullah Israi, Mama Abdul Rehman Dhap, Haji Bashir and others were present.
