D I Khan: WSSC suffers from worst financial problems, imposed sanitation tax
The Water and Sanitation Services Company (WSSC) is suffering from the worst financial problems in its history while a sanitation tax was also imposed on traders in order to resolve the financial problems of the department.
In Dera Ismail Khan, where previously The Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) was facing difficulties due to financial crisis and employees were forced to go on strike due to non-payment of salaries for several months, the Water and Sanitation Services Company (WSSC), established to provide clean drinking water and sanitation facilities to the citizens has also suffered from financial problems.
A sanitation tax was also imposed on the traders in order to resolve the financial problems of WSSC but the trader community of Dera Ismail Khan rejected the sanitation tax.
According to the sources, WSSC does not have enough resources left to pay the salaries of the employees next month without the help of the government grant.
In this context, to solve the financial problems, WSSC has announced the imposition of a monthly tax of 200 rupees per shopkeeper for providing cleaning facilities in the city markets, which is named as sanitation tax.
After the announcement of collection of monthly sanitation tax for the purpose of cleanliness, a joint emergency meeting of the three business organizations of Dera Ismail Khan was held at Mufti Mehmood Center at GPO Chowk, in which the business organizations have completely rejected this tax.
The traders said, the efficiency of WSSC is that the drains in the streets and markets are clogged with dirt, every vacant plot in the city is piled up with dirt, which is a testament to the efficiency of WASA and its officials.

The traders said that the institution which cannot provide basic facilities to the citizens, how can it demand taxes from the traders and citizens.
