Why Guru Nanak’s birthday is celebrated in November?

According to the Hindu calendar, Guru Nanak Jayanti, also known as Guru Nanak’s Prakash Utsav and Gurpurab, is observed in the month of Kartik (November).

The holiday, Guru Nanak Jayanti, will be observed on November 8 this year.

It commemorates the birth of the first Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak.

Guru Nanak Jayanti’s history

On April 15, 1469, Guru Nanak Dev ji was born at Rai Bhoi di Talwandi (now Nankana Sahib, Pakistan).

He was the first of the ten Sikh gurus and the founder of Sikhism.

He was born in 1469 on Puranmashi of Kattak (Kartik), as recorded by the Bikrami calendar.

As a result, Guru Nanak Jayanti is commemorated on this day, which every year falls in October or November.

Guru Nanak, who established Sikhism in the fifteenth century, is revered as a spiritual leader. Guru Granth Sahib was written by him.

The major lyrics of the Guru Granth Sahib build on the idea that there was only one creator of the universe, and his verses promote social justice, prosperity, and selfless devotion to others.

Two days before Guru Nanak Jayanti, celebrations begin in gurudwaras, and Akhand Path, a 48-hour continuous recitation of the Guru Granth Sahib, is held.

A procession called Nagarkirtan is organised the day before Guru Nanak Jayanti, and it is led by five men known as the Panj Pyare, who are bearing the Sikh triangle flag, Nishan Sahib.
