ISLAMABAD: The National Economic Council’s Executive Committee has approved the construction of the Hyderabad-Sukkur motorway on a Built-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model for Rs191 billion.
The consent was given at a meeting in Islamabad, which was chaired by Adviser to Prime Minister on Finance and Revenue Shaukat Tarin.
The project, which will be carried out by the National Highway Authority, is for the construction of a 306-kilometer-long, six-lane-wide split gated highway between Hyderabad and Sukkur.
The project was supposed to take 30 months to complete.
‘The PM will lay the foundation stone for the project.’
Bids for the Hyderabad-Sukkur motorway segment have been received, according to Federal Minister for Communication and Postal Services Murad Saeed, and the project would be broken ground soon by Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Murad Saeed, speaking at a press conference in Karachi with other PTI leaders earlier this month, claimed the Hyderabad-Sukkur Motorway would be the first project undertaken by the PTI government.
The federal minister had stated, “The M6 motorway will be a gift to the people of Sindh.”
Prime Minister Imran Khan chaired a meeting earlier this month to assess progress on Sindh rehabilitation projects.
During the meeting, the prime minister directed competent officials to complete the Hyderabad-Sukkur motorway project as soon as possible.
The Hyderabad-Sukkur project is part of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Sindh package, which he unveiled in April of this year.
