Speaking Truth to Oppressed

Why people in UK have started missing meals?

A consumer group warned on Thursday that millions of people in Britain are skipping meals as a result of the country’s current cost-of-living crisis. The group had previously predicted that many people risk fuel poverty as a result of the UK’s decision to end its energy price freeze.

This comes as data revealed that UK inflation surged back beyond 10% in September due to skyrocketing food prices, adding to the economic woes facing Conservative Prime Minister Liz Truss.

According to a survey of 3,000 people conducted by the consumer group half of UK households are reducing the number of meals they eat. Almost 80 percent of individuals are having financial difficulties as a result of the crisis, and a comparable percentage are finding it extremely difficult to eat healthfully.

According to Sue Davies, head of food policy, the devastating impact of the cost-of-living crisis is, worryingly, leading to millions of people skipping meals or struggling to put healthy meals on the table.” According to the consumer organization, millions of people would have difficulty heating their homes adequately as a result of the UK government’s decision this week to curtail the energy price freeze.

In a series of budget U-turns, the newly appointed finance minister, Jeremy Hunt, declared on Monday that he intends to end the centerpiece energy price freeze in April rather than late 2024.

According to Rocio Concha, head of policy and advocacy, “the government’s decision to end universal energy support in April risks throwing millions of households across the country not just the most financially vulnerable into fuel poverty.”

“The government must make it clear how it will assist individuals who are having financial difficulties after the spring and make sure that consumers are not left out in the cold as long as energy prices stay extremely high.”
