Pakistan hosts OIC meeting in Islamabad.
According to the news media, foreign ministers from Afghanistan, Indonesia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Malaysia arrived in Islamabad on Saturday for the 17th extraordinary session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers.
Minister for Defence Production Zubaida Jalal welcomed Bosnian and Malaysian foreign ministers Dr Bisera Turkovic and Saifuddin Abdullah, as well as their entourages, on the red carpet laid out in their honour.
Bosnian FM Bisera Turkovic praised Prime Minister Imran Khan on organising such an important summit on Afghanistan at a press conference.
She stressed the need of discussing Afghanistan’s current difficulties, saying, “I believe this massive gathering will come out with a solid attitude regarding our duty to collectively find the best possible solution.”
The Malaysian Foreign Minister praised Prime Minister Imran Khan for hosting the OIC’s special meeting, saying Pakistan has set a “very excellent example” in this case by hosting about four million Afghan refugees and offering various forms of support.
He described the summit as “essential” and “timely,” as it brought the Muslim Ummah together and took meaningful steps to help tackle more serious challenges, particularly humanitarian issues in Afghanistan.
“It is an honour for Pakistan that it is taking another such a significant initiative,” Minister Zubaida Jalal said of Pakistan’s efforts to help the Afghan people (moot).
Zubaida Jalal also met with Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi.
“Her presence here today is a reflection of our solidarity with the people of Afghanistan,” the Indonesian FM told the journalists.
She stated that Indonesia was always willing to help the Afghan people. “It is the obligation of the Muslim world to make Afghanistan a better place for its people.”
She thanked Pakistan for holding a special discussion on Afghanistan.
Amir Khan Muttaqi, Afghanistan’s acting foreign minister, and Kyrgyzstan’s deputy foreign minister have both arrived in Islamabad.
Mansoor Ahmad Khan, Pakistan’s ambassador to Afghanistan, stated on Saturday that Interim Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi would inform member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Afghanistan.
He called the gathering a “essential meeting,” saying it will provide delegates from all over the world the chance to learn about the situation on the ground in Afghanistan and find a solution.
Special arrangements have been prepared to greet delegates from OIC member states arriving at Islamabad International Airport for the debate.
The conference’s main goals are to emphasise the need for immediate help and resource mobilisation to avert a growing humanitarian crisis in war-torn Afghanistan.
For such a large occasion, special security arrangements were made.
There will be no entry into the red zone since 5,000 police officers will be stationed there. The security measures will include Army Rangers, Special Branch, Traffic Division, Operations Division, and Security Division personnel.
As Pakistan hosts OIC meeting in Islamabad, constitution avenue will be blocked to traffic, and Islamabad’s three Metro Bus terminals will be shuttered as well.
