Token strike observed today at GMC Hospital Sukkur

The Grand Health Alliances Sukkur, a coalition of the Young Doctors’ Association, Young Nurses’ Association, and paramedics, observed a two-hour strike today at GMC Hospital Sukkur. Outside the OPD block, the medical community gathered and yelled anti-Sindh government slogans.

Leaders of the “GHA” spoke to the media and expressed their disagreement with the Sindh Government’s recent decision to stop providing the Covid-19 risk allowance. They added that they would never keep silent and would continue to fight for their legal rights.

Dr. Abdul Wahid Abbasi, a representative of the Pakistan Medical Association, joined the protest and stated that because this is a health risk allowance, the government’s decision is to be condemned. The services provided by the Outdoor Patient Department were suspended for two hours during the strike.

Dr. Abdul Majeed, the president of the Young Doctors’ Association Sukkur, echoed this sentiment, stating that every healthcare worker is entitled to a health risk allowance because we are exposed to many other diseases in addition to Covid-19.

Furthermore, he added that during any tragedy, medical workers have always been on the front lines.

The GHA leaders claim that until the ruling is overturned, protests will continue.
