Traffic resumes on motorways after 16 hours

After the dense clouds of fog dissipated at noon on Friday, almost all of the highways were reopened to traffic. After being closed for nearly 16 hours, the highways were reopened.

Earlier, severe fog in the Punjab plains in the morning reduced visibility in a number of cities, disrupting road and air travel as well as people’s daily lives, according to the local news media.

The dense fog fully swallowed Punjab cities like as Lahore, Jahanian, Okara, Sahiwal, Pattoki, Mian Channu, Multan, and Kharian.

Motorways from Lahore to Sialkot, Lahore to Pindi Bhattian, Och Sharif to Rahimyar Khan, according to a spokeswoman for the Motorway Police and National Highways (MP&NH).

In a number of places, including Sahiwal, Gujrat, Kharian, Jhelum, Tilla Gang, Okara, Pakpattan, and Arifwala, visibility has plummeted to dangerously low levels.

The M4 highway was closed from Jalalpur Pirwala to Rahimyar Khan and from Shamkot to Pindi Bhattian, whereas the M5 highway was reopened.

National highway traffic was severely interrupted, as were flight operations in Lahore, Faisalabad, and Sialkot.

The iconic elevated Ring Road in Lahore was also shut down. There was no probability of rain in the city for the following 24 hours.

Six individuals were injured after their bus overturned in Faisalabad due to a fog-related mishap.

Road users must use front and rear fog lights when travelling, according to the Motorway Police.
The fog descended on the plains, while precipitation in the Northern Areas continued to blanket the high mountains in snow.

The temperature in Leh has plunged to minus 12 degrees Celsius, and the same has happened in Kalat. In Kalam and Skardu, the temperature dropped to minus nine degrees, while in Astore, it was minus eight degree centigrade.

The visibility restriction on the runway has been reduced due to heavy fog at Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore, disrupting aircraft schedules. At the airports of Sialkot and Faisalabad, the scenario was similar.
