What Joe Biden says about “Nuclear Armageddon”?
Joe Biden has said the world is at greatest risk of ‘nuclear Armageddon’ since the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis as the war in Ukraine continues but what is the meaning of this term? The US president issued the warning during a meeting with Democratic Party donors on Thursday, October 6.
Biden claimed Vladimir Putin was “not kidding” when he threatened nuclear strikes after Russia suffered heavy casualties in Ukraine. According to Dictionary.com, Armageddon refers to a “highly destructive conflict between opposing forces.”
In the New Testament, Armageddon refers to a place where “the kings of the earth, under demonic direction, will wage war against the powers of God at the end of history.”
A “nuclear Armageddon” which could also be called a “nuclear apocalypse” or “nuclear war” refers to a scenario in which nuclear weapons cause global annihilation.
Nuclear weapons are weapons of mass destruction and can cause significant damage with lasting radiological consequences. So far, nuclear weapons have only been used twice in wartime – when the United States dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945 to end World War II.
BIDEN ADVISES THE HIGHEST NUCLEAR RISK IN 60 YEARS
Biden warned Thursday that the risk of a “nuclear Armageddon” was the highest since 1962. Speaking with other party donors, Biden said, “We have an immediate threat to the use of nuclear weapons if things continue as they are. We have not addressed the Armageddon perspective since [former US President] Kennedy and the Cuban Missile Crisis “.
The Cuban Missile Crisis was a 13-day conflict between the United States and the Soviet Union that erupted when Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev planted nuclear weapons in Cuba within range of the United States.
The conflict ranks among the two nations that have come closest to instigating a global nuclear war. Biden’s comments come after he repeatedly warned of possible nuclear strikes, echoed by the EU.
