The first screening of Javed Jabbar’s documentary ‘Separation of East Pakistan — The Untold Story’ at the Cinepax Packages Mall on Monday left the audience stunned by the ways in which history had been manipulated against Pakistan, with issues between Bangladesh and Pakistan purposefully created to ensure continued regional unrest.
According to a press announcement, academics and intellectual leaders address the erroneous material in the video and offer little-known truths about 1971. The video asserts that the world community exploited the plight and anxieties of the disadvantaged people of East Pakistan to support a separatist movement when they, including Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, did not necessarily want an independent nation.
Most significantly, it clarifies the false information about the number of persons killed and raped circulated by those opposed to Pakistan, as well as the misconceptions about the ostensibly nonviolent campaign. The film also examines the errors committed by people in power at the time, which produced a climate suited to regional forces playing politics and breaking up a nation.
The film is a critical step in understanding what happened and improving relations between Bangladesh and Pakistan. It’s the time we should tell a true story to build stronger ties with our Muslim brothers.
