China to sanction US arms-makers for arming Taiwan

China will penalise US arms manufacturers for arming In response to two American weapon industry titans, which are involved in the Pentagon’s military sales to Chinese Taipei, Chinese Taipei decided to implement penalties against them.

At a press conference in Beijing on Friday, the spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry Mao Ning revealed the possibility.

Gregory J. Hayes, chairman and CEO of Raytheon Technologies, and Theodore Colbert III, president and CEO of Boeing Defense, Space, and Security, were named among the individuals targeted by the sanctions.

According to the official, the people were subject to sanctions because of their “role” in the upcoming $1.106 billion in arms sales to Taipei.

The Taiwan Policy Act, which the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee adopted on Wednesday, includes the arms shipments. After passing the whole Senate and House, the bill will be sent to the White House. Whether US President Joe Biden would sign the law is unknown.

Nearly all countrieos recognise that China has sovereignty over Taipei as part of the widely acknowledged “one-China” policy, which means that they would not engage in diplomatic relations with the secessionist government of the island.

Although the United States claims to adhere to the principle as well, the Senate-approved resolution aims to modify Washington’s stance on the “one-China” policy.

“The United States seriously violates the one-China principle,” Mao said.

China again calls on the US administration and all relevant parties to uphold the concept, “stop selling arms to Taiwan, sever the US-Taiwan military ties, and stop making factors that intensify the situation in the Taiwan Strait region,” she also added.
