People of Swat raising voices against rising terrorism in region

Terrorists of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) have gathered around Kanala area of Tehsil Matta in Swat to launch fresh attacks against Pakistan Army and civilians they consider Loyal towards the Pakistani state. Today, the people of Swat protested in large numbers against the re emergence of the Taliban in the Swat district of Pakhtunkhwa.

The demand of the people of Swat is that we want peace, we will not accept the Taliban under any circumstances. The re-emergence of Taliban in the area is alarming and this time the people’s outrage against talibanaisation is clear and loud.

Troubling reports have confirmed that Kanala area of tehsil Matta in Swat where at least 50 members of banned Tehrik Taliban Pakistan (TTP) have gathered to launch fresh attacks on Peace Committee members & local ANP leaders. Security forces yet to launch operation. People of the area are in grip of fear.

Swat is again facing repeat cast of 2008 when the valley was surrendered to terrorists over a period of an year. As more than a dozen terrorists attacks have happened in last week but both Federal nd Provincial governments are silent over the situations. The people of Pashtunkhwa demands nothing but restoration of peace.

Thousands of people protested against state terrorism, extortion, kidnapping for ransom, target killing. There only demand is the restoration of peace in the region. The Swat Valley came under the influence of militants in 2007 when the Taliban challenged the state injunction under Mullah Fazlullah.

A crucial military operation in 2009 succeeded in eliminating militancy from the region. Recently, however, there have been reports that militants have resurfaced after 12 years and are threatening villagers with dire consequences if they report them to the authorities.
