The same aircraft that flew Queen’s body to London was also deployed in Afghanistan and Ukraine.

The Queen’s casket was flown from Edinburgh to London by the Royal Air Force’s C-17 Globemaster aircraft.

The same Royal Air Force C-17 Globemaster that transported the Queen’s casket from Edinburgh to London last summer assisted in the evacuation of thousands of Afghans from Kabul.

Following Russia’s invasion, the highly used aircraft was also used to transport weapons and humanitarian goods to Ukraine.

The RAF chief said that the planes have contributed “extensively” to disaster relief efforts all over the world.

The C-17 Globemaster used in Afghanistan and Ukraine was transporting the Queen’s casket to London.

It’s a C-17 Globemaster, which is our strategic airlifter, Air Chief Marshal Sir Mike Wigston said to Sky News. On this very sad occasion, however, it will be transporting Her Majesty’s casket from Edinburgh to RAF Northolt.

The majority of the 15,000 people that we evacuated from Kabul last summer were transported on this heavily used aircraft. Since then, it has also been used to airlift lethal aid nodes to support Ukraine.

The plane left at 6pm and is expected to arrive in London an hour later. Queen Elizabeth, who passed away last week at the age of 96, received a royal guard of honour from 96 Queen’s Colour Squadron gunners in Edinburgh.
