Imran Khan rejects notion of COAS extension till general election
Former Prime minister & PTI chairman, Imran Khan, recently gave an interview to a private channel on Tuesday where he talked his statement regarding the extension of Chief of Army Staff, General Qamar Javed Bajwa. Khan cleared out his statement saying that he never meant the extension but rather referred to putting off changing the COAS till the general election.
“I never talked about the extension of the COAS tenure, I just suggested to defer the appointment of the new army chief until the new elections”, added Mr. khan.
Former Prime minister also talked about the new government at the position of appointing the new Chief of Army Staff. According to khan, the new appointed government in the next general election should decide the selection of the next COAS on pure merit. He also emphasized on the notion that he never proposed himself to be the selector of military’s head.
“I do not remember ever saying anything to illicit a statement from Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR)”, added PTI chairman. At the same time, khan also emphasized on the two big political families, Sharifs & Zardari, to not be at the pedestal of appointing the military head either.
Imran Khan has also called the nation to protest against the sitting government in September. This particular of Mr. Khan has been discussed widely because ever since the captain was ousted from his government back in April 2022, he is making headlines because of his constant remarks on army Chief.
It is quite also quite important to mention Khan’s speech in a rally in Faisalabad earlier this month where he openly called out the sitting government for deliberately delaying the general elections. He accused the government of deferring because it wants to appoint a COAS of their own choice. Khan went on to saying that the same appointed selected military head might not spare the incumbent rulers either.
“Patriotic Chief comes in, he will not spare the incumbent rulers”, added the former prime minister, Imran Khan.
