Floods in Pakistan: Badin on red alert

Residents in Badin are being advised to leave as the floods water level rises.

Hundreds of villages in the union councils of Malkani, Samansarkar, Pir Bodlu, and Pangrio have been flooded by floodwater.

After the floodwater level around the district continued to rise on Tuesday, the government in Badin issued an evacuation warning to the locals.

Express News claims that mosques and moving vehicles’ loudspeakers were used to warn the locals.

The district government urged the populace to leave their homes as soon as possible and shift their livestock and belongings to safer locations.

According to local sources, the water has gotten out of hand and is now rising rather than falling over a 50 km2 area.

Numerous villages in the union councils of Malkani, Samansarkar, Pir Bodlu, and Pangrio, among others, have been flooded by the floodwater.

Due to intense pressure on brittle embankments, water was overflowing between Right Bank Drains 205 and 207.

Additionally, the water level in the Left Bank Outfall Drain (LBOD) was steadily rising to a concerning level.

Following yesterday’s attempts to sever LBOD and RD 211, fear has spread throughout the neighbourhood.

Additionally, all future efforts to patch up the Paran River crack have been put on hold.

Water continued to seep through the Sukkur Barrage and Paran River fissures even after 17 days.

Water in the Kotri Barrage:

But the high floodwater at the Kotri Barrage on the Indus River has gradually started to recede.

Along the river’s banks, where people live, the water level has also begun to fall.

Residents in Badin are being advised to leave as the floodwater level rises.

Additionally, Manchhar Lake’s floodwater level dropped by another three inches to 122.5 feet, at which point water began to recede from the Indus Highway and railroad tracks.

Local activity has picked up as pressure on Bhan Syedabad and Karampur has started to lessen.

Local sources claim that displaced residents have begun to return to Bhan Syedabad.

In addition to the local administration’s initiative to clean up the area, the province government has begun to deliver humanitarian supplies including tents and food.

In the meantime, after a boat capsized in the Bobak region of Sindh, prompt response by the Pakistan Army saved numerous lives.

Sources claim that the army relocated old, women, and children to their communities for safety after rescuing them.
