Saudi authorities arrested a man who claimed to have traveled to Mecca to make a pilgrimage to Umrah on behalf of the late Queen Elizabeth II.

The man, a Yemeni citizen, posted a video clip of himself on social media at the Great Mosque of Mecca on Monday.

In the clip, he held up a banner that read, “Umrah to the soul of Queen Elizabeth II, we ask God to accept her in heaven and among the righteous.”

The images were spread widely on Saudi social media, with Twitter users calling for the man’s arrest.

Saudi Arabia forbids pilgrims to Mecca from carrying banners or chanting slogans.

While it is acceptable to perform umrah on behalf of deceased Muslims, it is not acceptable for non-Muslims such as the queen, who was the supreme governor of the Church of England, the mother church of the global Anglican community.

Security forces at the Grand Mosque “arrested a Yemeni resident who appeared in a video clip with a banner in the Grand Mosque, in violation of regulations and instructions for umrah,” a state media statement said Monday.

“He was arrested, legal action was taken against him, and he was charged with prosecution.”

The picture has gone viral on social media and people claiming his move was absurd.

As Man claims of performing Umrah on behalf of Queen, Queen Elizabeth’s funeral is planned on 21st September where all the world leaders will be the part of funeral prayers
