Gomal University students protested against Vice Chancellor (VC) Dr. Iftikhar Ahmed demanded the immediate removal of the Vice Chancellor of Gomal University.
The Vice-Chancellor filed 16 FIRs of Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) against the students in order to suppress the demonstration.
The students of Gomal University have started a series of protests against Vice Chancellor Dr. Iftikhar and the Mutahidda Tulaba Mahaz have demanded the immediate removal of Vice Chancellor Gomal University Dr. Iftikhar Ahmed.
During the protest, students said, HEC has put the future of students at stake by creating a non-approved department, Vice Chancellor Dr. Iftikhar has broken all limits of corruption.
“In this regard, all the students of Gomal University have boycotted the classes” they said.
The “Mutahidda Tulaba Mahaz” said peaceful protest is our fundamental, legal and constitutional right while on the other hand, the Vice Chancellor of Gomal University is trying to silence the students by registering 16 FIRs of MPO against the students.
A heavy contingent of police has been also called by Gomal University administration to disperse the protesting students.
Several attempts were made by The Asian Mirror to take a statement from Gomal University’s Vice Chancellor Dr. Iftikhar Ahmed and PRO Gomal University in this regard but they refused to give any statement on the situation.
Some sources also said, soon the provincial government of KP will remove the Vice Chancellor of Gomal University.
Meanwhile, according to sources from Gomal University, these days the hostels of Gomal University Dera Ismail Khan have become a permanent shelter for people who are not even students of the varsity but due to their political influence, they stay in hostel, the Gomal University have been paralyzed while the university administration has not been able to pay the monthly bill of 6 million rupees for 16 hostels.
The sources added, there are no funds to pay salaries to the employees, the provincial government has also refused to support the VC to evict the illegal occupants from the university hostels while the provincial government also canceled the notification by the VC to pay the generator and electricity bill for all the students.
According to the university administration, workers of various political organizations have also camped in the hostels and have also installed AC in the hostel rooms. Dozens of graduate students are also staying in the hostels for a long time due to their political influence and the police are not cooperating with us to evict them.
“The university has issued a notice to pay the electricity bill due to financial deficit,” the sources added.
The source also said, the weekly cost of the generator is Rs. 0.5 million and the electricity bill is more than Rs. 6 million, there are more than 3,000 students staying in the 16 hostels of the university, whose details are not available with the university administration.
