As online users criticised the Afghan bowler for making an offensive gesture against a Pakistani cricket player, the incident quickly gained attention.
On his official Twitter account, bowler Farid Malik recently expressed regret for his harsh treatment of Pakistani batsman Asif Ali. Farid admitted his actions were wrong, but he said he had always supported Pakistan and would do so going forward.

A furious feud has erupted between Pakistani batsman Asif Ali and Afghan bowler Fareed Ahmad during the two countries’ heartbreaking Super 4 game Wednesday at the 2022 Asian Cup in Sharjah.
On the last over which led to the clash, Asif was immediately sacked by Fareed after knocking him out by a six.
After taking the decisive wicket, the Afghan bowler celebrated animatedly right in front of Asif, who in turn rejected Fareed.
When the pitcher responded, the Pakistani hitter nearly hit him with the bat before the other Afghan players stepped in to calm the situation on the ground.
After this feud, Naseem Shah scored two significant sixes in the final when Pakistan defeated Afghanistan by a wicket in a tense match that resulted in India being eliminated from the tournament.
Pakistani vice-captain Shadab Khan, who was the top scorer with 36 points, played down the altercation on the pitch, saying it happened “in the heat of the day” and is best left on the pitch.
Meanwhile, the Afghan skipper who was manoeuvring into the abyss said he had no idea what was going on in between.
However, the incident sparked violence among fans in the stands, with some social media videos showing fans using stadium seats to beat each other up.
Former managing director of the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), Shafiq Stanikzai, lashed out at Asif Ali for his actions, saying the Pakistani batsman’s response was nothing more than “stupidity”. Stanikzai also requested that Asif be banned from the rest of the current championship.
“This is stupidity on an extreme level from Asif Ali and he should be banned for the rest of the tournament. Every bowler has the right to celebrate, but being physical is not acceptable at all,” he said. wrote Stanikzai on Twitter.
“The Afghan players were put in their place by 19-year-old Naseem Shah. An unforgettable game against people we have always loved and supported. “Lekin, tamizi aur arrogance nay un no foran neecha dikhaya,” Shoaib Akhtar wrote.
Afghanistan had a firm grip on the game until the final game, reducing Pakistan to 118 to nine. But Naseem had other plans as he beat Fazalhaq Farooqi with straight sixes to knock Afghanistan and India out of the equation for a final berth. Above all, with two wins in as many matches, Pakistan and Sri Lanka secured their place in Sunday’s tournament final.
India and Afghanistan will face each other in their final Super 4 match on Thursday, which has become inconsequential.
Meanwhile, #BanAsifAli has been trending on Twitter since the incident occurred, with some users also speaking out in support of the Pakistani hitter, claiming it was Fareed Ahmad who caused it.
