Amazon says ‘Lord of the Rings’ prequel sets the Prime Video viewership new record

According to AmazonAmazon, the “Lord of the Rings” prequel hits a record for Prime Video watchers.

There will be new “Rings of Power” episodes released every week until the season finale on October 14.

Amazon.com Inc. reported on Saturday that more than 25 million people watched its expensive Lord of the Rings prequel series on its first day, setting a record for a Prime Video series.

The first two episodes of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power were made available on Friday on the company’s streaming service in more than 240 nations and territories. Amazon did not specify whether the viewers it tallied had seen the first and second episodes in full or in part.

The following Rings of Power instalments will be released every week until the season finale on October 14. The Second Age, which is 4,000 years before the events in the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit books and movies, is the time period in which the series is set in J.R.R. Tolkien’s imagined Middle-earth.

The entire story will be told by Amazon over the course of five seasons and 50 hours.

The first season of the show, which was filmed in New Zealand, was created by the internet retailer for more than $465 million, making it one of the most costly TV shows ever made and the most ambitious since Amazon began producing original content in 2013.

The business has garnered praise for programmes including Transparent and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, but those series’ viewership has lagged.
