Flood survivor gives birth to newborn ‘Sailab Khan’

Over a million homes have been damaged or destroyed as a result of the rains that started in June and the powerful floods they unleashed across the nation.

Due to the threat of additional flooding in the coming days, particularly in Sindh, hundreds of thousands of displaced people urgently need shelter, food, and clean water.

Since June of this year, over 400 people have died in Sindh as a result of the devastating floods. Floods from swollen rivers are heading for low-lying areas, posing a threat to millions of people in the second-largest province of Pakistan.

Flood survivor gives birth to newborn ‘Sailab Khan’

A woman from the district of Larkana who is one of the displaced families recently gave birth to a baby in a flood relief camp. The baby boy’s father told the media that the newborn has been named “Sailab Khan” [flood] because he was born in the Larkana neighborhood that was affected by the floods. He expressed his displeasure that the provincial government had offered no assistance to flood victims.

One of Sindh’s worst-affected regions is the district of Larkana. The entire area’s infrastructure has been destroyed by flash floods. Locals claim that along with their homes and possessions, their crops and animals were also washed away.
